About Us

Description

In 1984, the Arican Methodist Episcopal Church created the Sons of Allen Men's Fellowship to foster closer relationships between men of the church, to equip them for meaningful service, to reach unchurched men, and to present positive role models for our youth.  The Sons of Allen has grown into an important connectional movement over the past twenty-plus years and is becoming a true connectional ministry.  The challenges and the disturbing realities facing African American men call for a dedicated and committed response from the church.  Among the concerns are:  1) Health problems such as prostate cancer, hypertension and cardiovascular disease and a general lack of accessibility to health care; 2)Economic hardships stemining from unemployment, underemployment and lack of critical job training and job skills;  3)Substance abuse and substance dependency;  4)Violence against other black men, women and children in the African American community; High rates of incarceration that make the pre-school to prison pipeline a real phenomenon in the African American community.  These are but some of the concerns that underscore the need of the AME Church to pay special attention to African American men.  The Sons of Allen are ready and willing to meet these challenges head on to make the real change that will uplift and improve the lives of African American men.
